I am an Englishman settled these past 23 years in Slovenia. I am very happily married and we have a grown-up son.
I was bought up a Catholic and attended a Jesuit run school. It's extreme discipline did not suit me and I lost my faith in God.
I am now a Buddhist. I found my religion when I arrived in Dharamsala, India as a backpacker on the hippie trail back in 1979. I joined Sogyal Rinpoche's Rigpa group of Buddhists immediately after hearing the Dalai Lama speak in London in 1981.
As a practicing Buddhist I am concerned with avoiding doing harm. Without peace within ourselves, we do harm and without peace in the world, well the harm being done is all the greater.
"Peace, in the sense of the absence of war, is of little value to someone who is dying of hunger or cold. It will not remove the pain of torture inflicted on a prisoner of conscience. It does not comfort those who have lost their loved ones in floods caused by senseless deforestation in a neighboring country. Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."

Thank you for being a part of this campaign and we hope you will be actively working with us towards making standup4tibet meaningful through this online social site. We will network and get in touch with like-minded folks around the globe sharing our thoughts, discussing on various aspects of Tibetan struggle for freedom, add photos, videos, blogs and articles and make this grassroots campaign for Tibet fun and enjoyable yet relevant and result oriented.
During this campaign, we pay homage to all the lives lost in the recent uprisings in Tibet. The fathers, the mothers, the wives, the husbands and the children of all the brave Tibetans killed during the uprising are going without Tibetan losar this year as a mark of respect to the deceased. We will express our concern and solidarity to our MARTYRS with their grieving family members including scores of those little children who has lost one or both of their parents. Please spread this campaign far and wide and invite as many of your friends to join us as possible. Together we can make this campaign and many more to follow, a great success and an inspiration to many.
