Tibetan Freedom or Autonomous Region under China - Whisch is preferred?

Tere is a feeling that it is better for Tibetan people to ask for Autonomous status under China's Government instead of total Freedom.
I wish to find out from this forum which is more practical and perpetual in the long run?
I wish to know the views of our friends
